Stephen
J. Smith, MSW,CSW,CPC
Stephen genuinely has fun helping others to peacefully claim their worth and
live
their dreams.
He works with individuals
and organizations to identify their unique combination of
passions, strengths and purpose. He reframes clients' perceived weaknesses
into their greatest assets.
He partners with clients
in pursuit of their cherished goals, for themselves and for
those important to them. This partnering relationship provides the structure
through which the client persists towards each objective, in a balanced manner
that honors all their core values.
Stephen enjoys coaching
creative and fun-loving individuals. The challenge of
working together with start-up, or re-organizing undertakings, the newly
self-employed and non-profits is particularly of interest to him.
Professionals (particularly
in the Human Service field), entrepreneurs, executives,
managers, directors, technicians and graduates entering the workplace are
his target clientele.
Stephen compliments his
passion for coaching with invaluable experience drawn from his 15 years as
a professional clinician in the behavioral science field. As an
Urban and Industrial Sociologist, he spent 40 years in organizational development
and activism within community, labor, political, educational, social, cultural,
ethnic, religious, non-profit and volunteer organizations.
While grateful for the blessings associated with having graduated from a fine Boston prep-school, Thayer Academy, Stephen knew he needed to become grounded in the broader realities of life. To this end he conducted extensive self-directed studies of family life and community relations within core inner-city working class, and multi-ethnic communities. He chose also to enjoy raising his family in southwest Detroit.
He spent two decades integrating
as a laborer within the auto and steel industries to experience first hand
the blessings of actual social, class and work
relationships within factory life. This experience helps him to appreciate
the
contributions and unique gifts of every individual. He sees possibilities
for
individuals and organizations that often go unnoticed.
Wayne State University, MI was the source of his Masters of Occupational Social Work Degree. Lycoming College, PA is where he received degrees in Sociology and Music. He has always had a passion for singing, writing and photography. He partners with his wife in the enjoyment of seeing their 5 grandchildren running between his daughter's home to their left and son's home to their right! He asks, "Can life get any better?"
