A
FAMILY AFFAIR
COACHING FOR STUDENTS
AND NEW COLLEGE GRADUATES
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, competition for jobs is fierce and campus hiring is down more than 36%. But the crux of the issue is that more and more college students just don’t know where their interests lay or, if they do, don’t know how to get there from here.
David Rosenblum, for example, is a recent graduate from a Michigan university with a degree in physics and chemistry. David wanted to work in the field of nanotechnology. He was bright and eager to get going, but did not know how to uncover those positions nor did he have a clear understanding of how to market himself.
Lisa Campbell, also a recent college graduate, was less sure of her direction. Lisa received her BA in Sociology. “So now what?” asked Lisa. “I am not even sure that I like the field of Sociology.” Unlike David, Lisa’s coaching journey started with an exploration her interests and talents.
Both David and Lisa sought advice from Zenith Coaching, Inc., an association of the top nationally and internationally recognized Executive, Corporate and Individual coaches who help their clients to find solutions to the challenges they are facing. Zenith Coaches help college students and graduates to identify their unique interests and set goals to successfully move toward fulfilling them. Zenith’s philosophy is customized to fit the individual. “There is no such thing as one size fits all,” offers Deborah Rubyan, founder of Zenith Coaching, Inc. “We start each person off where they are, help them discover where they want to go, and then help them identify the appropriate resources to get them there.”
Parents have also become intimately involved in the efforts of their college student or graduate’s job search and campaign. In a recent article on the Wall Street Journal’s CareerJournal.com, Kris Maher, Staff Reporter of the Wall Street Journal, maintains that “While parents have always been willing to pitch in, the current tough job market, which has been especially brutal on young workers with little experience, has brought their interventions to new heights.”
What makes “the
Zenith Way” so unique is the involvement of parents in the process.
To ease the anxiety felt by parents who want to see their children prosper
as well as get them onto someone else’s payroll, Zenith Coaching, Inc.
offers a coaching program designed specifically for parents. This program
helps parents to discover effective strategies for successfully helping themselves
and the student or graduate to achieve their goals.
Another valuable Zenith Coaching program, Getting Ahead and Staying Ahead, takes place during the six months immediately after the student or graduate is gainfully employed. “All kinds of personal and business issues arise as the individual adjusts to the first real job on their career path,” acknowledges Deborah. “Business coaching is an integral part of empowering individuals to feel comfortable and productive as they grow into their positions.”
While there is no guarantee that coaching will lead to a job, a Zenith Coach can help college students and graduates to:
